What is epiEspañol?

Learn the Spanish you'll actually use. The commonest words first, real sentences from life in Spain, and practice drills that help them stick.

epiEspañol is for people learning Spanish in Spain, in a class or on their own in the real world. Use it alongside your lessons. When you need to say something today, translate it and save it to a phrasebook, then practise it until you don't have to think about it.

What's in the app

Translate

Type or say something in English and get a natural Spanish translation. You can change the tone to suit who you're talking to: friends, the shopkeeper you want to be polite to, or an official. Well-known English idioms come out as the Spanish equivalent, and it doesn't censor your words.

Phrasebooks

Save phrases into your own phrasebooks. You can listen to them, test yourself on them and share them with friends.

Prepare Me

Tell it where you're going, such as the doctor's, the bank or a parents' evening, and it writes the phrases you're likely to need there.

Learn

A course that starts at beginner and goes up level by level. Each level has flashcards, practice and short tests.

Quickfire

Short games for verbs, nouns and everyday words, for when you have a few minutes.

Explore

Topic pages that explain grammar simply, with lots of real examples. It covers what a Spanish textbook does, with phrases at your level and voices so you can hear the words and learn to recognise them.

Reference

Conjugation tables for the most common verbs, and tables for the most common nouns and adjectives. Free for everyone.

Plans and the monthly allowance

Free

The free plan gives you a preview of every part of the app, and some complimentary credit to try the AI features too.

A plan

A plan opens everything: every Learn level, all of Quickfire, the whole of Explore and Reference. It costs €5.99 a month, or €49 a year. Prices include IVA.

The monthly allowance

Translations, Prepare Me and new premium audio use AI, and the monthly allowance pays for it all. It refreshes each month so that you always have access to the most advanced features. Learn, Quickfire, Explore and Reference don't use it at all, so you can practise as much as you like.

A month's allowance covers roughly one of these:

• about 1,500 translations of a short sentence
• about 150 Prepare Me sets of 10 phrases
• about 2,500 new audio clips

Usage credit

Usage credit is extra allowance. You can earn it by inviting friends, for example. We only use it if you run out of your monthly allowance, and it never expires. If you don't have a plan, you can use your credit for a free month.

Cancelling

You can cancel any time. Open Plans and choose Manage plan. If your plan was set up for you, write to adam@epiespanol.app; a Google Play plan is cancelled in Play Store › Subscriptions. Your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for and then stops.

Learning with a class?

If your teacher uses epiEspañol, they'll have a class code. Enter it in Settings or on the Plans screen and you get 10% off your plan. If you already pay, the discount starts from your next payment.

Class codes change every year on 1 December. Ask your teacher for the new code and enter it before the end of December to keep your 10% off.

The code also links your account to your teacher. When teachers start making their own games and material in epiEspañol, you'll be able to use whatever your teacher shares with the class.

If your teacher isn't on epiEspañol yet, tell them about it, or send them this page. Teachers get a free account and a code for the whole class.

For teachers and creators

If you teach Spanish, or make Spanish content for learners, you can join our teacher programme. You get:

• a free account for as long as the programme runs
• a class code for your students or your audience, which gives them 10% off their plan
• your own page showing how many students have joined

There's more to the programme, and we'll talk it through with you when you get in touch.

To join the teacher programme, email adam@epiespanol.app. Tell us where you teach (a school, an academy or your own classes) and send a link we can check, such as your school's website, your teaching profile or your channel. We set up every teacher by hand.

Invite friends

You have a personal invite link in the app, under Invite friends. If a friend signs up through it and then starts a plan, you get usage credit: €1.50 if they pay monthly, or €10 if they pay for a year. The credit reaches your account 14 days after they pay.

Questions

I can't sign in

You can sign in with Google, or with your email and a password. If you've forgotten your password, choose "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen. If an email from us doesn't arrive, check your spam folder and give it a minute before you try again. If you're still stuck, email us from the address you signed up with.

I can't hear the audio

Check your volume. On an iPhone, check the silent switch too, because it also mutes sound in the browser. The first time you play a phrase you need to be online. You can change which voice you hear in Settings.

Can I put it on my home screen?

Yes. On an iPhone, open epiespanol.app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the menu (⋮three dots), then Add to Home screen or Install app. After that it opens like any other app.

How do I cancel my plan?

Open Plans and choose Manage plan. If your plan was set up for you, write to adam@epiespanol.app; a Google Play plan is cancelled in Play Store › Subscriptions. There's more under Plans and the monthly allowance.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings, go to Account and choose Delete my account. That deletes your account, phrasebooks, history and saved audio, and cancels your plan if you have one. If your plan can't be cancelled for you, the app says so and nothing is deleted: cancel the plan with Manage plan in Settings › Account (or write to adam@epiespanol.app), then delete your account. If you only want to remove some things, you can clear your history or delete single phrases and keep your account. The account deletion page has the details.

Is what I translate private?

We send what you type to our AI provider so it can translate it. They don't use it to train their models. Our privacy policy has the full details.
